Way Back When - Australian Garrison Artillery 1885 - 1905

A member of the public has kindly forwarded and allowed us to publish copies of her grandfathers promotion and discharge certificates along with a photo of him and a copy of his Warrant upon joining the Military Forces of the Commonwealth Retired List, on the Australian Artillery Association website.

Edwin Andrew Smith enlisted into the Australian Garrison Artillery in 1885 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on 14 January 1899 then discharged on 1 July 1906.

Following Sergeant E.A. Smith's discharge he was subsequently promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer on the 24 October 1906 in the Military Forces of the Commonwealth Retired List.

Copies of the photo and documents can also be viewed in the Photo Gallery.   We have also forwarded a copy of these images to the RAAHC for their retention.
