ANZAC DAY 2014

No matter where you are this 2014 ANZAC Day, marching with your unit or with your family/children grandchildren or simply observing from the footpath or at home watching it all on the TV, we at the Australian Artillery Association wish you a wonderful and memorable day and hope the opportunity affords you to meet up with many of your old mates.

Take a moment as we all do to remember those who have gone before us and are no longer here, raise a glass in their memory. Also take a few moments to have a good look around and cherish what it is you have before you, your mates.  Let them know how much they mean to you.

Most importantly stay safe, do not drink and drive.

BOOK - 'BATTLE WINNERS' by ALAN H. SMITH

A book by Alan H. Smith who joined the Royal Australian Artillery in 1951.   He was commissioned in 1954 and his service includes time with the British and Canadian Artillery.   Alan retired in 1969.

Alan Smith has written extensively on Australian Artillery history and was the assistant then editor of Cannonball the Journal of the Royal Australian Artillery Historical Company from 1993 to 2013.

Battle Winners is a vibrant and detailed account of the extraordinary battles of the Australian 6th and 9th Division six field artillery regiments against the Italian Army and Afrika Korps in the unforgiving terrain of the Western Desert from 1940 to 1942.

It traces the 6th Division’s advance to Benghazi, the legendary Siege of Tobruk and their ‘bush artillery’ of the 9th Division, closing with the bloody finale that was Second El Alamein against a battle-hardened foe.

OUR COUNTRY'S CALL - SONG

Our Country's Call is a new song written and sung by a Mr Alan Winter a resident of the Sunshine Coast Queensland.  The song celebrates those that have served our nation throughout time recognising the many different backgrounds from which they came to serve.

The Australian Artillery Association has been give full permission to be the first to publically air the song via our website which is considered a great privilege.   Alan's father served during World War 2 in Artillery.

All proceeds from the song will be donated to Legacy by Alan.

The song is a little over 5 minutes (which is the short radio version).

Enjoy!
